STRONG-CT PROGRAM COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut is seeking a Program Coordinator for the STRONG-CT program. STRONG-CT (Science and Technology Reaching out to New Generations in Connecticut) is a five year NSF-funded program, currently in its third year that aims to increase enrollment, retention and graduation rates of first generation and historically underrepresented student populations in life science disciplines. It represents a collaboration between Manchester Community College, Quinebaug Valley Community College, Three Rivers Community College, and the University of Connecticut. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator of the grant, this individual will coordinate day-to-day administrative activities and provide limited educational support for STRONG-CT participants. The Program Coordinator will contribute to the successful operation of the program in three related areas:
- Program administration;
- Program promotion and recruitment;
- Academic assistance
Target salary is in the mid forties and will be commensurate with training and experience. This is a 12 month, full-time, grant-funded position subject to annual renewals based on available funding and satisfactory performance. The position is available immediately.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates general office operations; processes and maintains necessary paperwork, records and files required to support STRONG-CT, including an electronic database for tracking students.
- Coordinates administrative and technical support as well as program logistics for program faculty, staff and students. Works closely with STRONG-CT Project Coordinator at the Community Colleges.
- Organizes events and activities to recruit students into the STRONG-CT Program and to support students already in the program.
- Assigns work to student staff.
- Responds to inquiries from students, faculty and others regarding STRONG-CT policies, procedures and requirements, making referrals as appropriate.
- Compiles data and prepares reports to aid in evaluating student progress and program effectiveness; may recommend changes or improvements.
- Monitors and maintains program budget; providing monthly budget reports to project PI.
- Assists in advising students or participants regarding academic program planning and course selection; monitors student progress and compliance with program requirements and standards.
- Coordinates student applications for the program. Works with supervisor and others in reviewing admissions information, interviewing applicants, evaluating admissibility to program and recommending acceptance into the program.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in appropriate field.
- Three to four years related experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Ability to perform and coordinate administrative functions, including knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, etc.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Familiarity with website maintenance.
