Purpose:
The Connecticut Climate Challenge Summit is to educate college students and the local community about the urgency of stopping global warming, and to provide the necessary framework to take action at the campus and local level. More specifically, to bring awareness to what actions have been taken in the past, what is being done today, and what plans are being made for the future to end the detrimental effects fossil fuel use is having on our environment, health, security, and future.
The Summit will bring together speakers from a variety of professional backgrounds, and personal experience to discuss the subjects of climate change, alternative energy, and environmental justice. Speakers will provide insight to the realities of climate change and provide information about the solutions that are available today.
Focus:
Our focal point will be on how colleges and universities throughout the U.S. are decreasing their use of non-renewable energy and fossil fuel emissions with the help of a unified initiative, the Campus Climate Challenge. The Campus Climate Challenge is a project of more than 30 leading youth organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Challenge leverages the power of young people to organize on college campuses and high schools across Canada and the U.S. to win 100% Clean Energy policies at their schools. The Challenge is growing a generation-wide movement to stop global warming, by reducing the pollution from our high schools and colleges down to zero, and leading our society to a clean energy future. We will also include Training. Training on how to run an effective campaign will also be provided. Trainings will cover the areas of campaign and organizational development, recruitment, working with the media, lobbying, and environmental justice.
Who Should Attend?
The Summit seeks to attract primarily students, teachers, and professors from Connecticut High Schools, Colleges and Universities. Local legislators, college administrators, local business leaders, local and civic organizations, and others who are seeking alternative energy policies and programs for their own special interests are welcome and encouraged to attend.
We hope that we can “team” with the you to shed light on this very important environmental topic and to make it better understood. This topic is timely and needs to get the recognition it deserves.
Thank you for your consideration.
